Dr. Dakin explained the surgery clearly and answered all my questions thoroughly. He told me everything that I should expect and put me at ease about the procedure.

From my initial consult & exam, the team at WC did a phenomenal job. Dr Dakin was thorough and explained everything, answered my questions and gave me straight answers. Office scheduled me and was very responsive to any inquiry made. Check in through surgery was quick and efficient w a wonderful team throughout. Anesthesia, post op, all the nurses A+++. Was nervous walking in and was surprised walking out. On my feet almost immediately and back to normal within weeks from a Epigastric hernia w laproscopic repair. My experience with Dr. Dakin was terrible. I had a hiatal hernia and was operated on by Dr. Bellamarin (wonderful doctor, but he is no longer with Weill Cornell). My appointment for pain at the surgery sight was why I asked for an appointment. Disappointed with his bedside manner. Dr. Dakin told me to get a CT scan. I got the CT Scan in a disc sent it to Dr. Dakin and called at the end of the week. I have been calling and calling leaving for three week with my information. He never got back to me. Every Doctor I ever had including Dr. Bellamarin had the decency to call or have someone else call. Very disappointed and still no answers.

I had an abscessed cyst that needed to be removed. I didn’t want to go to the emergency room and contacted the general surgery department at NYPH. They were able to get me into see Dr. Dakin the next day. He was able to organize a procedure room. They took the cyst out and had me on my way within 2.5 hours. No drama. Very little pain. The General Surgery Team was friendly, capable and professional. I don’t often have great things to say about healthcare providers but the service I received from the General Surgery Team at NYPH exceeded my expectations.

While Dr. Dakin is clearly an expert in his field, during my visit he lacked empathy and was unwilling to offer ANY guidance other than to see someone in an adjunct department because my medical issue was technically outside his bailiwick (though I was told the contrary when I scheduled my appointment six weeks prior). He did give me the name of a colleague, but refused when I asked if his assistant could facilitate an appointment so I wouldn't have to wait another six+ weeks. Additionally, he was dismissive when I asked for his "best advice" on the subject, which is listed in his profile as an area in which he has performed research.

A true brilliant professional with decades of experience behind him. Highly recommended on every level.

Dr. Dakin took a huge risk taking me on as a patient. 6 other surgeons turned me down. He and his staff did a great job and the floor staff at the hospital were top notch as well. He saved my life. Best doctor I’ve ever had. I’m so thankful he was willing to take on my case when so many others wouldn’t.
